By: Avamere Family of Companies
Date: January 3, 2020

In October 2018, the Avamere Family of Companies announced six key strategic priorities. Here’s what the teams have accomplished in the last year.

People Priority

The People Priority is the primary focus of Avamere six priorities. Here’s what the team accomplished in the last year:

  • Welcomed a Chief People Officer, Dale Fruehauf, in April
  • Welcomed a Director of Labor & Employee Relations, Andrew Loomis, in October
  • Participated in and sponsored the Walk to End Alzheimer’s, raising $23,824 across AFC
  • Partnered with Meals on Wheels; our Signature Healthcare at Home teams helped provide Thanksgiving meals to seniors in need
  • Conducted an employee satisfaction survey; over 90% of employees who took the survey reported they feel the Avamere Family of Companies cares about the patient experience
  • Introduced OnShift Engage, an engaging platform where employees can report about their day and earn rewards for completing everyday tasks
  • Initiated the People Charter, a team to develop Avamere’s goals under the People Priority
  • Launched Team 150, a leadership development program, in December
  • Enhancing our culture of diversity inclusion (watch the video below to find out more about this initiative)

Quality Priority

Quality that is obvious is one of Avamere’s core values, so naturally it’s one of the strategic priorities as well.

The Quality Priority team developed a Nurse Practice Council, including nurses across the company. This team of qualified nurses analyze issues from the Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement results and make recommendations on how the company should approach these situations.

“Quality is the foundation to so many of our programs,” said Donna Mueller, Vice President of Strategy and Innovation. “But fundamental to quality is people and stability with our people and making sure our people have what they need to thrive.”

Growth & Development Priority

The organizing principle of the Growth and Development Priority is the continuum of care.

According to Bob Thomas, Chief Operations Officer and lead on this priority, the Growth and Development Priority has two core goals:

  1. Make Avamere a strong, viable company for the future in a rapidly changing healthcare environment
  2. Create more opportunities for our people as Avamere expands

Here’s what the growth and development team has accomplished in 2019.

  • Developed an investment committee to guide Avamere’s growth opportunities, taking into account each individual business line’s investment criteria for how they want to grow
  • Developed a capital strategy group to capitalize on potential growth and development opportunities
  • Released a new tool for measuring performance, called Balanced Scorecards, to combine financial, quality, and other metrics into one place for easier analyzing; the team received positive feedback on the pilot and are implementing the scorecards throughout the company
  • Ovation by Avamere, a new senior living brand, is under construction in Omaha, Nebraska and St. George, Utah

Continuum of Care Priority

Establishing a continuum of care is all about creating synergy between our business lines.

In 2019, the Continuum of Care Priority team started invigorating the CareConnect teams. These teams are members across different Avamere business lines within the same market. They work together closely to support each other and help care for patients as their needs change.

In addition, Avamere is working to fill the continuum of care in existing markets. As part of this goal, the company welcomed Avamere at Mountain Ridge, an assisted living community in South Ogden, Utah, where they have home health and hospice services.

Reimbursement Priority

We welcomed the Patient-Driven Payment Model in October 2019.

A new payment model means changes throughout the entire healthcare industry. Now more than ever, healthcare entities must be precise with their therapy to offer the right amount of therapy at the right time. Infinity Rehab has prepared for five years for PDPM.

Today Avamere is auditing current assessments to ensure our therapists have what they need to achieve outstanding patient outcomes.

Payer Priority

Here are a few of the Payer Priority 2019 accomplishments:

  • Welcomed Director of Payor Relations, Wade Bennett in April 2019
  • Joined a quality post-acute care network, PACNet, to assist in negotiating within the post-acute network space
  • Avamere is broadening their network with companies to encompass all our business lines
